Beckham Bans Sleep Shot Profits
Soccer superstar DAVID BECKHAM banned sales of images from his famous sleeping video, even though they could have benefitted the gallery displaying the movie. The hour-long film, featuring Beckham sleeping naked in a Madrid hotel room, is the work of artist SAM TAYLOR-WOOD and was displayed at Britain's prestigious National Portrait Gallery in 2004. However, newly-released documents show the sports star was desperate for no one to make money out his image, even the gallery's souvenir shop. A spokesman for Beckham confirms the strict demands, but claims there was nothing unusual about the deal. He says, "Sam Taylor-Wood was given absolute free rein in terms of the art work. But of course there is control of how the work is used post its completion. "It's important to consider how an image of David might be used commercially."
