Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chilli Peppers And Guns N Roses Inducted Into Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame

Stars of the entertainment world assembled in Cleveland, Ohio to see the latest inductees to the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, now in its 27th edition. USA Today led the reporting on the five-and-a-half-hour ceremony at Cleveland's Public Hall, where the 6000 strong crowd were treated to renditions of the inductee's hits by the groups themselves and musical fans. As expected, handbags were at the ready once news of GUN N ROSES induction was announced, with Axl Rose refusing to be inducted with his original band-mates. This didn't seem to bother Slash and co as they were joined instead by MYLES KENNEDY of Alter Bridge on vocals, performing a string of hits from their first album. Comedian Chris Rock later lampooned Rose's absence as he was introducing fellow inductees the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, who also sent-up the group's infamous photo shoot wear they covered their genitals with socks.

The legendary hip hop trio The Beastie Boys were without ADAM 'Mca' YAUCH, who is recovering from a cancerous parotid gland and lymph node. Remaining members Michael 'Mike D' DIAMOND and ADAM 'Ad Rock' HOROVITZ watched a performance inspired by their work, having vowed not to perform until Yauch is fully recovered. The Roots, Kid Rock, Black Thought and Travie Mccoy performed a medley of their songs from throughout their illustrious career. Also absent from the ceremony was former Red Hot Chilli Peppers guitarist John Frusciante, although he was honoured in a speech made by group bassist Flea.

Also inducted were the late blues guitarist FREDDIE KING, singer/songwriters Donovan and the late LAURA NYRO; backing groups the Blue Caps, the Comets, the Crickets, the Famous Flames, the Miracles and the Midnighters; and non-performers Cosimo Matassa, Glyn Johns, and the late Tom Dowd and Don Kirshner.
