Beach Boys Reunion In Question As Mike Love Books Show In South America

The Beach Boys reunion appears to be over - singer Mike Love has booked a South American show without Brian Wilson and Al Jardine.

The group is in the middle of their 50th anniversary tour, and the bandmates performed together on Sunday night (24Jun12) in New York - but now sources tell Rolling Stone that singer Love is already making plans to move on without his former band leader and co-founder Wilson and bandmate Jardine.

He has booked an autumn show with his touring version of The Beach Boys, and the news appears to have caught Wilson by surprise.

He tells the publication, "I wasn't aware that Mike had some shows in South America. News to me."

Wilson, who has been at odds with Love over some song selections for the tour - as reported in a recent Rolling Stone expose, admits he's still enthusiastic about the current reunion trek: "There has been talk of doing more shows with the Boys and possibly a new record, which I would love to do. This reunion is blowing my mind."

Love licensed the Beach Boys' name in the late 1990s and has toured with Bruce Johnston and hired musicians ever since. According to the publication, Love and Johnston have one South American show confirmed in October (12).

Another Beach Boys date was announced for 6 October (12) at Texas's Nutty Jerry's, but the date has been cancelled.

A statement from venue bosses reads: "The group that was scheduled to perform at Nutty Jerry's is not the same line-up as the current Beach Boys 50th Anniversary tour. As a result, Nutty Jerry's did not feel that we could advertise the show as the 'original' Beach Boys. Nutty Jerry's regrets the misunderstanding and any inconvenience to our loyal customers."
