Bbc Launches New Glastonbury Stage

by | 14 June 2007

The BBC has announced the launch of a new stage at Glastonbury festival called the BBC Introducing stage.

Acts nominated by BBC music shows across the country and by an expert panel will play on the stage, with 24 artists selected in total.

Glastonbury's Emily Eavis, Radio 1 DJ Steve Lamacq and fellow DJ Bobby Friction were all on the expert panel.

Acts selected to play include Jag, Tiger Style, Broke N English, Sam Issac, the Ripps and Doll and the Kicks.

Also playing will be Domino Records' new signing Eugene McGuinness, who was selected by Radio 1. The solo artist releases his debut single, Monsters Under the Bed, on July 2nd.

Jason Carter, editor for Radio 1's live events, said: "It really makes sense for the BBC as a whole to draw together all of our fantastic 'new music' expertise at every level, and deliver superb opportunities for artists and the best brand new music to our audiences across platforms."

Huw Stephens, another BBC DJ involved in the project, said on his radio show last night that the chance to play Glastonbury - the "biggest of them [festivals] all" - was the a huge opportunity.

This year's festival runs from June 22nd to June 24th and will include headline slots from the Killers, Arctic Monkeys and the Who.

Also playing are Iggy and the Stooges, Bjork, the View, Kasabian, Arcade Fire, Babyshambles and Patrick Wolf.
