Bass & Tiegs' Risky Road Trip
Boyband star LANCE BASS and model CHERYL TIEGS unwittingly drove down one of Mexico's most dangerous roads after their plane was grounded on the way to soft porn mogul JOE FRANCIS' wedding.
The pair, along with a group of pals, jetted out of Los Angeles to Puerto Vallarta airport, close to the Girls Gone Wild creator's estate in Punta Mita - where his nuptials to CBS reporter Christina MCLarty were taking place over the weekend (06-07Nov10).
After a crash landing at the airport, all flights were re-directed to Guadalajara, over 300 miles (482 kilometres) away from their destination, so the group decided to drive the rest of the way, which took six hours.
But Bass and Tiegs didn't realise their impromptu road trip took them down a notoriously deadly highway, which has seen a speight of drug-gang murders and beheadings in recent years.
Tiegs tells New York gossip column PageSix, "It was actually fun, because we didn't know we were in the danger zone. We were taking pictures, laughing, singing, having such a great time.
"About half the trip was in the dark. We stopped at places that looked a little shady, but we wanted to grab some beers or water. Everyone was nice, but who knows what was lurking in the darkness?"
And Tiegs admits it was a relief to finally arrive at Francis' home, adding, "Joe and all of our friends threw their arms around us and told us they were trying to get ahold of us to tell us not to get on the highway."
