Barry Manilow - Barry Manilow's Harmony Heading For The Stage14 March 2013
Veteran singer Barry Manilow is celebrating as his acclaimed musical Harmony has finally landed a run after more than 15 years of delays.
The Mandy hitmaker's spectacular, inspired by a group of young singers who rose to fame in Germany before World War Ii, previewed in 1997, but plans to stage it in Philadelphia before going to Broadway were dropped because of financial difficulties.
A legal battle with a producer ensued, and Manilow subsequently revealed the stresses and strains of the stage show put him and his manager in hospital, as well as bankrupting his co-writer Bruce Sussman.
It was announced on Wednesday (13Mar13) that Harmony will make its debut at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia in September (13) before heading to Los Angeles next year (14) - and Manilow is overjoyed with the news.
In a post on his Facebook.com page, he writes, "As you might have read, Harmony is finally happening! Bruce and I are over the moon. Talk about dreams coming true.
"It was a long wait, but I must thank all of you for sticking by us and believing in our show. Hope to see you in September."
