Barbra Streisand - Barbra Streisand Struggling To Raise Cash For New Movie
Barbra Streisand is hoping to make her return to directing, with the movie 'Skinny and the Cat', based on a script that she wrote 25 years ago. However, if she doesn't raise the $20 million that she needs to make the movie - which is tipped to star Cate Blanchett and Colin Firth in the lead roles - then it won't be happening at all. Streisand has explained that she's found it tricky getting funding for the movie and Time magazine have quoted the legendary singer as saying "I'm just in shock. Hollywood has changed so much. It's about a woman ahead of her time. It's just a fascinating story that is very relevant to today. I may have to pick up the phone again."
If all goes to plan, however, Streisand will start production on the romantic film in January 2013. Skinny and the Cat tells the tale of a female photographer, Margaret Bourke-White and an author, Erskine Caldwell. When she originally wrote the script, Streisand had intended to star in the movie alongside Robert Redford. However, Farrah Fawcett scuppered her plans, by taking the story to the small screen, before Streisand had a chance to begin work on her own version.
Streisand herself has only appeared in two movies, since she directed 'The Mirror has Two Faces', sixteen years ago. Those two movies were Meet the Fockers (2004) and Little Fockers (2010). Streisand is no stranger to fundraising though; she recently held a very lucrative fundraising event to raise money for the research into women's heart disease, at her Malibu home.
