Reggae star Buju Banton has been released from prison after Bob Marley's son STEPHEN offered up his own house as a bail bond.
Banton, real name Mark Myrie, was remanded in custody in December 2009 after he was caught allegedly attempting to buy drugs from an undercover law enforcement officer in Sarasota, Florida.
The star, who denies a string of charges including conspiracy to possess and intent to distribute cocaine, stood trial in September (10) but the case collapsed when jurors were unable to reach a verdict following three days of deliberations.
Banton was left facing another four months behind bars when his retrial was set for February (11), but his friend Stephen Marley has now won his freedom by placing his Florida home, worth $300,000 (£200,000), as collateral.
Banton was released from jail on Wednesday (10Nov10), when he signed an extradition waiver and was ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device to ensure he stays in America.
