A Movie About The 2013 Bangladesh Factory Complex Collapse Has Been Banned For Six Months After It Was Alleged The Film Could Affect The Country's Garment Industry.
Rana Plaza focuses on the survival of clothing worker Reshma Begum, who lasted 17 days trapped under debris after a five-storey factory building crumbled, killing more than 1,000 victims.
On Monday (24Aug15), judges at Bangladesh's High Court in Dhaka imposed a six-month ban on the movie's release after receiving a writ petition from trade union leader Sirajul Islam Rony, who claims scenes of horror and violence could be damaging to the industry's reputation.
The judges also asked film censor board officials to prove why Rana Plaza is fit for release.
Director Nazrul Islam Khan has defended his film, insisting it shows real-life courage amid the disaster.
