Bands Gear Up For Nme Awards

by | 01 March 2007

Arctic Monkeys could continue their recent run of success at tonight's NME awards.

The indie rockers are nominated in four categories: best British band; best live band; best music DVD; and best album for Whatever People Say I am, That's What I'm Not.

At last month's Brit awards the boys walked home with the awards for best album and best British group.

But they've some pretty strong competition from Muse, Kasabian, Babyshambles and Oasis to be named as Britain's top band by readers of NME.

The Killers could also repeat their Brits success as they are nominated for best international group. They have also been given the nod in the best album, best video and best track categories.

One of Lily Allen, The Feeling, My Chemical Romance, Razorlight or Robbie Williams might be left with a sour taste in their mouth as they are all nominated for worst album.

But no doubt Lily has been cheered up by her nomination for sexiest woman although she'll have to beat supermodel Kate Moss to it.

Other awards to be handed out this evening include best live event, best radio show, hero of the year and villain of the year.

Branded as the 'rock and roll party of the year', the ceremony is being held at London's Hammersmith Palais.
