Andy Warhol - 'Baby Jane' Holzer Sued Over New York Real Estate Deal
Andy Warhol's former protegee Jane Holzer has been hit with a lawsuit over allegations she cheated a celebrity broker out of her commission on the purchase of a $16 million (£10.3 million) mansion in New York.
Broker Joanna Cutler claims she had shown the Upper East Side pad to the reclusive actress/model, aka Baby Jane, and her late partner Lance Valdez on numerous occasions, but the star cut the top real estate agent out of the exclusive sale in November, 2007 and "entered into an oral agreement with the property owner to purchase the property in her own name".
In legal papers filed in Manhattan Supreme Court on Monday (03Jun13) lawyers state: "Cutler was instrumental in procuring the transaction and in assisting Ms. Holzer and her attorneys in the negotiation of the terms of the contract."
Cutler's lawyers believe the couple "began to devise a scheme to avoid payment of a brokerage commission" to lower the price of the lavish four-bedroom house, and reportedly delayed the transaction until the exclusive listing with Cutler and agents at Alf Naman Real Estate had expired.
Cutler is demanding at least $720,000 (£464,516) in compensation, in addition to interest and expenses, reports the New York Post.
Valdez died last year (12) in a helicopter crash. Supermodel Elle MACpherson's fiance Jeffrey Soffer was among the survivors of the horrific accident.
