Rod Stewart - Autobiography Helped Rod Stewart Rediscover Songwriting Skills
Rod Stewart has overcome a serious case of writer's block to pen his first album of new tracks in 20 years.
The 68 year old, who has topped the charts around the world with albums of covers in recent years, is hoping to score number one again with his latest release, Time.
The album, released at the beginning of May (13), will feature 11 tracks he has written and produced himself, and he admits he's glad to have his songwriting skills back.
Stewart tells the Bbc that he rediscovered his talents while writing his autobiography, Rod, two years ago.
He says, "Something about that process of reviewing my life for the book reconnected me and that was it - I was away. Suddenly ideas for lyrics were piling up in my head. Next thing I knew, I had a song called It's Over about divorce and separation.
"I finished seven or eight songs very quickly and I still wasn't done and it became apparent that I would eventually have a whole album of material to record, which had never happened before."
