The Polish monk gave his life for a stranger at Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz and was later canonised by Pope John Paul II in 1982, and now Mexican animators at Dos Corazones are revisiting his life for Max & Me.

The story is based on Franciszek Gajowniczek's recollections of the man who offered to die so he could survive.

Polish actor Piotr Adamczyk, who will provide the voice of Gajowniczek in the film, tells Reuters, "Maximilian Kolbe's life was like a testament to humanity... He proved that there is always room in our souls, in our heart for boundless good, boundless love."

Max & Me is scheduled for release next summer (16).
