Artem Chigvintsev - Artem Chigvintsev Fractures Spine, Out Of Strictly Come Dancing?
Artem Chigvintsev was dancing through the pain at the weekend as a fracture on his spine looks to have ended his time on 'Strictly Come Dancing', just five weeks in. Chigvintsev's partner for the show has been former soap star and pop singer Holly Valance and it now looks likely she'll be teaming up with New Zealand dancer Brendan Cole after training with him this week.
The Associated Press reports that Chigvintsev injured himself during rehearsals on the Friday before the last show show (November 4th 2011) but wasn't made aware of the diagnosis until Monday, meaning that he and Valance danced through the live show at the weekend. In what says a lot for the chemistry between the pair, they scored the second highest mark of the night, gaining 34 points out of a possible 40. The 29 year-old dancer won the 'Strictly Come Dancing' glitterball last year with former 'Eastenders' actress Kara Tointon.
A statement from the show's network, the Bbc said, "Artem injured himself during rehearsals on Friday. Following medical attention, he has been diagnosed with a transverse process fracture of the lumbar spine. We have been told that this sort of fracture is completely stable and he has been advised that there is no untoward effect from him continuing to dance. We will, of course, continue to review this following medical advice over the course of the week."
