After his sensational Diamond Jubilee Celebrator Concert went off without a hitch, Gary Barlow will be awarded The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire as part of the Queen's Birthday honours list.

As well as putting together the star-studded event, which saw acts old and new including Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Tom Jones, JLS, Jessie J and Stevie Wonder performing for Her Majesty, the 41-year-old Take That singer also penned the song 'Sing' alongside Andrew Lloyd Webber for the event. The song used 210 voices from across the Commonwealth, with many of the ensemble joining Barlow on stage at the event for a one time only live rendition.

According to The Sun, the OBE he will receive will not only be a reflection of his success with the Diamond Jubilee festivities, but it is also to honour his long musical career as well as his most recent success on TV with the X Factor.

While the Queen missed Barlow when he was on stage with Cheryl Cole, she did get to see him perform the new Commonwealth anthem 'Sing', as she arrived mid-way through the concert. At the end of the event, Barlow was on hand to greet Her Majesty on stage with a bow before Prince Charles gave a speech to honour his mother and her sixty years of service to the crown.
