Aretha Franklin - Aretha Franklin Postpones East Coast Concerts
Soul star Aretha Franklin has called off her upcoming concerts on the East Coast of America to give her fans more time to recover in the aftermath of superstorm Sandy.
The music legend was due to perform in Newark, New Jersey on Saturday (10Nov12) and in Westchester, New York, on Tuesday (13Nov12) - two areas which were badly hit by the devastating wind and rain.
However, Franklin has now decided to postpone both shows to allow fans in the region more time to get back to normal.
She has apologised to the local community, as well as Newark's mayor, and made a charity donation to help ongoing aid efforts.
Franklin says in a statement, "To the Honorable Mayor Cory A. Booker, the community of Newark, New Jersey, New York City and White Plains, New York, it is with sincere regrets that we will have to reschedule the concerts on Saturday... at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and Tuesday... at the Westchester County Center due to the many troubling issues still facing the community at large.
"I will keep you in my prayers going forward and will see you soon. And of course, I will make my donation to the Red Cross."
