Aretha Franklin - Aretha Franklin Cancels Wedding To Willie Wilkerson
Aretha Franklin 's love life has taken yet another twist, with the soul legend making a U-turn on what was set to be a fairytale story ending in her marrying long-term friend William 'Willie' Wilkerson. The 69 year-old had initially made plans to get married in the summer but in a statement revealed that things were "moving a little too fast."
The Nme reports that the veteran performer said "Regretfully, Will and I have decided we were moving a little too fast. There were a number of things that had not been thought through thoroughly. There will be no wedding at this time. We will not comment on it any further because of the very personal and sensitive nature of it. We appreciate all of the many well wishes from friends." The good news for Wilkerson is that Franklin didn't comment on whether the pair had split up, indeed if it simply a case of things moving to fast then maybe the couple have made the decision together to simply realign where their relationship is going.
Franklin has had a string of illustrious and not-so illustrious other halves. Her previous relationships also include two marriages; the first was to then-manager Ted White in 1961 which yielded one son in 1964 named Ted White Jr before their split eight years later - by which time she was already in a relationship with road manager Ken Cunningham. That partnership saw her mother her fourth child - having had two as a young teenager - before they broke up in 1976. She then got hutched for the second time in 1978 to the actor Glynn Turman, divorcing in 1984.
