Hit Off Broadway plays Appropriate, An Octoroon and Fun Home were the big winners at the 2014 Obie Awards on Monday (19May14), picking up slew of top honours between them.
Liesl Tommy was applauded for his directing work in Appropriate, while the drama's star, Johanna Day, received a Performance Obie, alongside An Octoroon's Chris Myers and Fun Home's child star Sydney Lucas.
Branden Jacobs-Jenkins was feted with the Best New American Play title for penning both Appropriate and An Octoroon, while Fun Home author Lisa Kron, composer Jeanine Tesori and director Sam Gold were all celebrated in the Musical Theatre category.
Will Eno was recognised with the Playwriting award for The Open House, which also won Oliver Butler honours for directing.
Meanwhile, veteran stage and film star Estelle Parsons was presented with a lifetime achievement accolade at the annual ceremony, which took place at Webster Hall in New York.
The Obie Awards celebrate the best in Off Broadway plays.
The BBC drama starring Aidan Turner returns to BBC One on September 4th.
