Ant Mcpartlin - Ant And Dec Triumph At Rts Awards 2011

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly were winners at the Royal Television Society Awards 2011 last night (15.03.11).

The duo beat Graham Norton and Charlie Brooker to pick up the gong for best Entertainment Performance at the ceremony which was held at London's Grosvenor House Hotel.

Ant and Dec, whose success follows them receiving the Most Popular Entertainment Presenter award at the National Television Awards in January, said although they were thrilled to win they were exhausted because they 'gate crashed' as many television and radio stations as they could the night before (14.03.11) to raise money for Comic Relief.

Dec told BANG Showbiz: "We're exhausted today to be honest because of the Comic Relief event yesterday. We visited almost 40 TV and radio stations yesterday and broadcasted to 40 million viewers and listeners.

"It was a full, long evening so we're a bit tired. Hopefully, it will be a nice relaxing one tonight. "

Ant added: "It's always nice to win but we came here last year and went home empty handed and still had a thoroughly nice time."

Professor Brian Cox was also celebrating after unexpectedly beating Piers Morgan in the Presenter category for his work on 'Wonders of the Solar System'.

He described his win as a "shock", especially as he doesn't consider himself a TV personality and also because he was up against Piers, whose work he says is opposite of his own.

The brainy star said: "I don't even see myself as a presenter. I'm just an academic who makes TV programmes. It was a real shock because I've just started in this business.

"Being nominated alongside Piers Morgan is kind of like a clash of genres. He's a chat show host and I'm at the science end on BBC Two. It's an interesting juxtaposition."

Funnywoman Miranda Hart also enjoyed a successful night, winning both the Scripted Comedy and Comedy Performance awards for her show 'Miranda'.

Other programmes to pick up awards were ITV1's 'The X Factor' in the Entertainment category, BBC1's 'Eastenders' for Soap and Continuing Drama and 'Sherlock' for Drama Series.
