Another Film Critic Bites The Dust
Film critics are increasingly becoming a vanishing breed as newspapers continue to look for ways to retrench and focus more intently on drawing younger readers, many of whom would rather read the raw comments of their peers than the informed opinions of veteran reviewers. The latest to be pink slipped is longtime Village Voice critic J. Hoberman. In an interview with New York magazine, Hoberman said that he had watched many people lose their jobs at the Voice over the last five years. "I would be disingenuous to say I hadn't considered the possibility that this would happen to me eventually. ... I was shocked, but not surprised."
