Angelina Jolie is set to star in 'Gertrude Bell'.

The 'Tourist' actress is attached to appear as the titular early 20th century Middle East pioneer in the biopic, which is being developed by Ridley Scott's Scott Free Productions.

The celebrated filmmaker is also considering directing the movie, while Jeffrey Caine is penning the screenplay, which the Hollywwood Report says is being tailored specifically for Angelina.

Englishwoman Gertrude Bell worked for British intelligence during the first world war and was described as a "key asset" in helping dismantle the Ottoman Empire and founding Iraq, winning the admiration of many Arabic people.

She had a passion for archaeology and languages and wrote about her adventures in the region.

As well as 'Gertrude Bell', Angelina is also attached to play Kay Scarpetta in an adaptation of Patricia Cornwell's popular novels, appear in a sequel to 'Salt' and star in Disney's 'Maleficent',

It is believed Ridley is considering directing serial killer mystery 'Child 44' and fashion drama 'Gucci', as well as 'Gertrude Bell'.
