Angelina Jolie has passed up a leading role in 'Gravity'.
The 'Salt' actress was approached twice to take a leading role in the sci-fi movie - which tells the tale of a female astronaut attempting to make her way back to Earth after a satellite crashes and kills the crew of a space station - putting the future of the Alfonso Cuaron-directed film in jeopardy, Deadline.com reports.
Warner Bros, the studio behind the film, made a second attempt to cast Angelina after actresses including Natalie Portman, Carey Mulligan, Sandra Bullock, Sienna Miller and Scarlett Johansson were also approached or studio tested - Portman and Bullock are believed to be favoured alternatives.
Robert Downey Jr. is still attached to the project in a minor role, but the lead actress will take up the majority of the screen time, leading to Warner Bros being "in a bind" about the movie.
Angelina currently has numerous films coming up in the pipeline - as well as making her directorial debut in a romantic drama movie based around the Bosnian War, she is also lined-up for a role in 'Cleopatra' and the follow-up to 'Salt', which has so far grossed $244 million in cinemas worldwide.
