Angelina Jolie has opened an all-girls’ primary school in Afghanistan and the Hollywood actress has also vowed that the proceeds from a new jewellery line that she’s launched in her name will also go towards opening more education centres focused on educating girls in the country. Jolie confirmed to E! News that she had opened a school in an area outside of Kabul; the village is in an area that traditionally favours the education of males over females.

The village has a high refugee population, as regional fighting led to many families having to flee their homes, when they were destroyed. Currently, the school educates between 200 and 300 girls and according to E News, has had a “huge impact” on the local community. Now, in a bid to increase that positive impact on the local Afghan community, Jolie has launched a new jewellery range in order to raise funds for future education projects in the area. “Beyond enjoying the artistic satisfaction of designing these jewels, we are inspired by knowing our work is also serving the mutual goal of providing for children in need,” Jolie said to E! News.

Jolie has designed the collection alongside her designer pal Robert Procop and the pair have spent years on the collaboration. “"We launched this collaborative collection with the intent that 100 percent of the profits will go to charity,” said Procop. “The intention was to create something beautiful but more importantly to provide children an opportunity to have an education.”
