Angelina Jolie - Angelina Jolie Fires Back At Copyright Infringement Lawsuit

The actress wrote, produced and directed the 2011 movie, which chronicles a romance between a rape and kidnap victim and one of her captors during the 1990s war.

Reporter James J. Braddock filed suit for copyright infringement, alleging the film's plot is based on his 2007 book The Soul Shattering. He claimed he showed his tome to the film's co-producer Edin Sarkic during a 2008 meeting to discuss the possibility of turning the project into a film - although nothing came of the discussions.

Jolie subsequently brushed off the claims, stating: "It's par for the course" - but now the star has filed legal papers in a bid to have the case dismissed.

The actress, as well as officials at production company GK Films and distributor FilmDistrict, have fired back at the lawsuit in documents filed this week (begs03Sep12) at the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The papers state, "Defendants deny that they violated the Berne Convention for the production of Literary and Artistic Works or any other law at issue in this case, including United States copyright laws. Defendants further deny that the protectable elements of the Motion Picture and the book entitled The Soul Shattering are legally or substantially similar under controlling Ninth Circuit law."
