ANDY SERKIS is the first actor to sign up to the TINTIN movies.
While there has been no official announcement of what role he will play, it is believed that Serkis will play Captain Haddock, a temperamental sea captain, in the comic adaptation, reports the Hollywood Reporter.
The films will reunite Serkis with LORD OF THE RINGS director PETER JACKSON.
The actor played Gollum in the trilogy of films as well as appearing as the big ape in Jackson's KING KONG.
The DreamWorks films are collaborations between PETER JACKSON and STEVEN SPIELBERG.
Jackson and Spielberg will each direct one instalment. The director for the third movie is yet to be decided.
The TINTIN movies will be based upon three stories from THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN series by Georges Remi.
The Belgian comic sees a young journalist, Tintin, following a number of exciting and dangerous stories alongside his dog Snowy.
The film will be made using digital 3-D motion capture technology.
British writer Steven Moffat has adapted the script while Kathleen Kennedy will take the role of producer.
Meanwhile, Serkis was recently nominated for a Golden Globe in the best supporting actor in a mini-series or film made for television category.
He is nominated for his performance in the HBO movie LONGFORD which also starred JIM BROADBENT.
Other nominees in the category include TED DANSON for DAMAGES, WILLIAM SHATNER for BOSTON LEGAL and JEREMY PIVEN for ENTOURAGE.
Serkis will next appear in the film INKHEART alongside HELEN MIRREN and PAUL BETTANY.
It will be released in March 2008.
