The event is named 'Be Amazing, Stand Up and Volunteer' and is taking place across the country, in major cities such as New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Dallas, Philadelphia, Houston, Miami, Atlanta and Washington, D.C. To launch the initiative, Garfield and Stone will be lighting the Empire State Building in red and blue (Spider-Man's signature colours). The cast of the blockbuster are then expected to join New Yorkers in a variety of community projects, including brightening up a Bronx community garden and helping to serve food to elderly Manhattan residents.
The chief service officer at Nyc service, Diahann Billings-Burford commented on the link between the volunteering event and the release of the Spider-Man movie: ""Peter's choice has always been, how is he going to use his powers? We hope this will be a launching point for more New Yorkers to get involved to help our city become better." The co-producer of The Amazing Spider-Man, Laura Ziskin, lost her battle with cancer last year at the age of 61. The event will also support the Stand Up to Cancer foundation, which was co-founded by Ziskin.
