Andre - Andre 3000 Unsure About Music Future16 November 2012
Rapper/actor Andre 3000 has warned fans not to expect a solo album from him anytime soon because he has "no idea" where his future in music lies.
The star hasn't released a solo album since the acclaimed The Love Below, which was packaged as a joint album with his Outkast bandmate Big Boi's Speakerboxxx in 2003, and the duo's last release was 2006's movie soundtrack Idlewild.
While Big Boi has continued to work as a solo artist, Andre has only made guest appearances on a handful of songs by other artists such as Beyonce, Frank Ocean and Rick Ross - and he snubbed his Outkast partner's attempts to work with him on his new album.
Now, Andre 3000, real name Andre Benjamin, admits the thought of putting together a debut solo project has crossed his mind, but the hip-hop icon has not yet decided if he will follow through with his plans.
He tells RollingStone.com, "Things are kind of up in the air with me, and some days, I feel like, 'Yeah, I'll do it (record a solo album). Some days, I feel like, I don't. I don't know the future of music right now. I have no idea what I do. I honestly don't."
And the increasing pressure on him to produce top songs has also affected his hitmaking process: "I miss creating all the time and I miss going with blinders on and not thinking about anything. It's such a sad thing because now, people judge everything that I do. Because I don't do it much, they analyze every word and before, you could've had a s**tty verse and people just forgot about it. So it's different now."
However, that doesn't mean that Andre 3000, who is portraying rock legend Jimi Hendrix in a new biopic, has stopped creating music in the studio: "I record and I write ideas. I think I'll always do that, for some reason. But I don't know if it will go to another artist or will it be my stuff or will it go to some movie? I don't know. I just kind of keep creating and hopefully, it'll fall into a slot."
