The X Files - Anderson: 'Communication Is Key To Parenting'

Anderson insists she was a nightmare for her parents to raise after the family moved from London to America when she was just 11 years old, and she feared her own daughter would act out too when they relocated to Britain.

She tells Britain's The Sun, "I had some difficult, rebellious teenage years. When I left high school my classmates voted me Most Likely to be Arrested.

"Although I was born in America, I regarded London as home. But I then found myself living with my parents in the middle of Michigan. Exactly the same thing happened, in reverse, with my own daughter Piper. She was brought up in America and I brought her with me - aged 11 - when I moved back to London."

The actress uses every opportunity to communicate with Piper, now aged 16, to ensure their relationship remains strong.

Anderson adds, "What I learned about those years is that I should have talked more about what I was feeling instead of behaving in a silent, resentful way... I should have talked more about my feelings.

"The result is that I now talk to Piper non-stop. But I do think plenty of talking to each other - and talking through everything - is the way forward."
