An L.a. Mayor For Hollywood?
Eric Garcetti, a Los Angeles city councilman who represents the Hollywood area and has been an ardent advocate of studio interests during his 12 years on the council, has been elected mayor, defeating city controller Wendy Greuel, herself a onetime DreamWorks executive. Each candidate had received millions of dollars in political contributions from members of the industry in a race in which a record $32 million was spent on the two campaigns. Garcetti's finance chairman, Eric Paquette, senior VP of production for Sony Pictures Entertainment/Screen Gems, told the Hollywood Reporter: Eric ran a flawless campaign that made people believe that they could participate in the future of this great city. In a separate interview with Daily Variety, Paquette added: People have a real vested interest in wanting him to succeed. That goes for every industry, not just Hollywood.
