Amy Winehouse - Amy Winehouse's Charity Funds New Orleans Music Lessons

The Back to Black hitmaker, who died a year ago on Monday (23Jul12), was heartbroken by the scenes of devastation after Hurricane Katrina battered the Big Easy in 2005.

Now staff at her charitable foundation, set up after her death, are channelling cash into an initiative to provide after-school music clubs for kids in the city.

Winehouse's father Mitch tells NME magazine, "Amy didn't know she was going to die so she didn't leave a detailed list of instructions. But I remember sitting with her when Hurricane Katrina happened in 2005, and she said, 'This is terrible, Dad.' So I had a pretty good idea of what we were gonna (sic) do in the United States.

"We're raising money to create an after-school music workshop in New Orleans, and we're working in conjunction with the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra. We're gonna (sic) feed them and we're gonna (sic) create these after-school music clubs."

Winehouse died from alcohol poisoning at her home in London on 23 July (11).
