Amy Winehouse Set For Posthumous Chart Success

Amy Winehouse looks set to posthumously dominate pop charts across the globe as fans flock to purchase copies of her Grammy Award-winning album Back To Black following her tragic death on Saturday (23Jul11).

The British singer was found dead at her north London home on Saturday (23Jul11), but her musical legacy has been given a big boost with devotees rushing to download her critically-acclaimed 2006 release in the hours after news of her passing broke.

Back To Black leaped to the top of the British and American iTunes music charts the day after her death, knocking soul star Adele's 21 from the number one spot. She has also topped the iTunes charts across mainland Europe and reached number two in the Australian and New Zealand countdowns.

A double-disc package featuring Winehouse's 2003 debut Frank with Back to Black and a deluxe version of her sophomore release also re-entered charts around the world.

Sales of Winehouse's albums in Britain saw a 37-fold increase from Friday (22Jul11) to Saturday, according to a spokesperson for the U.K.'s Official Charts Company.

The sudden sales surge, which also occurred following the death of Michael Jackson in June, 2009, will be reflected in next week's (31Jul11) chart countdown.
