Amy Winehouse - Amy Winehouse Died Of Bulimia Says Brother

Amy Winehouse's brother has claimed the singer died from bulimia - not from her alcohol and drug addictions.

Alex Winehouse has claimed that while Amy's dependency on booze and narcotics would have caught up with the troubled star eventually, it was ultimately her alleged eating disorder that killed her.

He claims the disease left his younger sister, who died aged 27 at her home in Camden, north London, ''weaker and more susceptible''.

An inquest into Amy's death ruled that she died as a result of accidental alcohol poisoning.

She had been sober for a few months before she died in July 2011 but had had a re-lapse a few days before her death, it is believed.

Alex, who was four years older than Amy, told the Observer magazine: ''She suffered from bulimia very badly.

''That's not, like, a revelation - you knew just by looking at her. She would have died eventually, the way she was going, but what really killed her was the bulimia... absolutely terrible.

''I think that it left her weaker and more susceptible. Had she not had an eating disorder, she would have been physically stronger.''

Alex also alleged that the 'Rehab' singer had developed the disorder - where the sufferer forces themselves to be sick after eating - when she was 17.

He said: ''[Her friends] were all doing it. They'd put loads of rich sauces on their food, scarf it down and throw it up.

''They stopped doing it, but Amy never really stopped. We all knew she was doing it but it's almost impossible to tackle, especially if you're not talking about it.''
