Amy Winehouse - Amy Winehouse Celebrated At 2011 Mtv Vma Awards
Amy Winehouse who tragically died last month at the age of 27 was remembered for her contribution to music last night (28.08.2011) at the Mtv Vma awards by stars from around the world.
'The Back to Black' singer who battled drink and drugs addictions was found dead at her London flat on July 23rd 2011 but will mainly be remembered for her influence on contemporary music and her chart success. Comedian Russell Brand delivered a heartfelt speech on stage saying "She was a mate of mine and tragically this year we lost her" according to Mtv.com. BRAND also noted how much the troubled singer had influenced other artists including Adele, Lady Gaga and his own wife, singer Katy Perry. Further praise for the 'Love is a Losing Game' singer came from Bruno Mars who performed his own version of hit single 'Valerie'. Legendary crooner Tony Bennett also paid homage by introducing some never-before-seen footage of the pair recording together in Abbey Road studios, London, describing WINEHOUSE as a "true" jazz artist.
Since her death Amy Winehouse's music has re-entered the charts and made her one of the UK's best selling artists of the 21st century. Her second album Back to Black won five Grammy awards, her other notable awards include a BRIT award win in 2007 as well as three Ivor Novello awards.
