America's Next Top Model, Angelea Stripped Of Title?
The final of America's Next Top Model ended in turmoil on Wednesday night (December 7, 2011) after one of the three contestants was disqualified without explanation. Lisa D'Amato, Allison Harvard and Angelea Preston were ready to battle it out for the prestigious title, but the judges declared Preston must leave the competition, leaving the other two contestants bewildered.
According to People magazine, network CW later said it had learned information about Preston after the show had wrapped - and re-shot scenes to include her disqualification. This suggests the model was the original winner of the competition and was stripped of the title. During the show, host Tyra Banks didn't go into detail as to why Preston was removed from the competition. There has been some speculation that Preston had bragged about her win on Facebook, prior to the finale being aired, but this is yet to be confirmed. Several Twitter users began circulating a screen-grab of the supposed status, in which the model appeared to tell friends, "I am winner!!! I know it.support me and f*ck angelea haters!!! Look at me now b*tch". Though the CW's statement didn't mention the alleged status, it read, "After production wrapped on the current cycle of America's Next Top Model, we learned information that made Angelea ineligible and she was subsequently disqualified from the competition. As a result, new scenes were filmed to address this for the audience during the finale".
Eventually D'Amato was named the winner, but the victory was somewhat tainted after social networks became alive after the strange nature of Wednesday's broadcast and focused mainly on the disqualification.
