American Idol - American Idol Shock Vote Sends Casey Abrams Home

American Idol said goodbye to Casey Abrams on last night's controversial results show (28th April 2011). American Idol judges used their "saving vote" to keep Abrams in the competition weeks ago, but fans of the hit talent show decided his time was finally up on this year's singing competition.

'Idol' contestants had tackled the songs of Carole King on Wednesday's show (27th April 2011) with Abrams receiving less than rave reviews for his quirky rendition of 'Hi-De-Ho'. The unconventional Californian singer, who plays piano, guitar and upright bass, had not appeared in the bottom three since the judges saved him on 24th March 2011. At the beginning of the evening's results show, host Ryan Seacrest had remarked that "a lot of fans are going to be disappointed" by the result, hinting that a popular member of the competition would leave. Abrams was joined by JACOB LUSK and the 17-year-old country singer SCOTT MCCREERY in the bottom three. After the host announced the results, Abrams performed a stirring version of 'I Put a Spell On You' to a standing ovation by the live studio audience.

Following Abrams's exit, the five remaining American Idol contestants are rocker JAMES DURBIN, LAUREN ALAINA, JACOB LUSK, Haley Reinhart and SCOTT MCCREERY. The finale airs on Fox on 24th and 25 May 2011.
