American Idol Stunned As Favourite Is Eliminated

American Idol contestant Pia Toscano was eliminated from the competition last night, despite being heavily tipped to become this year's American Idol champion, reports ABC News.

As host Ryan Seacrest announced Toscano's name, the 'Idol' audience shouted "no!" and the judges looked stunned. Steven Tyler told the American viewers that their "lack of passion was unforgivable" while Jennifer Lopez appeared to be on the verge of tears. The 41-year-old R&B star said that she was angry and speechless and Randy Jackson echoed the comments. Despite the furore, Toscano accepted the decision but became teary when talking about how her deceased grandfather had inspired her 'final song'. The 22-year-old proceeded to sing 'Stand By You' and received a stand ovation from the live studio audience. Before her departure, the New Yorker had been compared to the likes of Whitney Houston and Celine Dion. She received unanimous praise for her rendition of Tina Turner's 'River Deep, Mountain High' on Tuesday's show and was assumed to be safe from elimination.

The shock elimination now leaves the door open for contestants such as Casey Abrams and Paul Mcdonald to take this year's American Idol crown.

The Judges used the one power save unwisely, way to early in the show. It was an EXTREMELY poor decision, which will certainly be on there minds for a long, long time. This was the absolute worst decision in The History of IDOL. The American voting public got it so wrong. In the minds of millions of viewers it questions watching the show from here forward.Pia is everything that an American Idol should represent for America. The remaining contestants can't even come close. Pia will without a doubt become another Jennifer Hudson, or Carrie Underwood a Super Star. Hats off to you PIA. Your in the number one spot above all the others.

People who are ignorant to not watch American Idol over Pias being voted off are insane. American idol just have to figure out a way for people to vote fairly! People will call in a hundred times for their family or friend! Every judges, Ryan, the audience and the public were shocked! And myself, thank God she'll be on tour. She has no problem these kids are gonna get offers coming out their rear to sign contracts for managers, producers and record execs! Amertican idol has finally got the best judges and because of that amazing talent who has made it so far,!!! LOVE< LOVE the show just figure out how to fix the voting process!!

First and foremost, it's a singing competition. If you can't sing, your stage presence is not going make a good show. You can learn to put on a good show and yes, even learn to sing, but again, right now, it's a singing competition. One of the best examples of not having much stage presence, (at that time) winning American Idol and becoming one of the biggest stars discovered by Idol is Carrie Underwood!! Don't vote on them because, they're cute, pretty, can jump up and down a lot or run around the stage; vote for them for they're singing! That's what the show/competition is about! Either they can sing or they can't!

FIRST OF ALL, THE VOTES SHOULD BE LIMITED AS THEY DO ON DANCING WITH THE STARS. AI IS SUPPOSE TO BE A SINGING CONTEST, NOT A PERSONALITY CONTEST. PIA GETTING VOTED OFF WAS A JOKE!! I LOVE THE NEW JUDGES AND THAT INCLUDES RANDY, BUT THE UNLIMITED NUMBER OF VOTES GOTTA GO.......
