Mtv - Amber Portwood Pleads Guilty To Domestic Abuse Charges
AMBER PORTWOOD, who shot to fame as a reality TV troublemaker on Mtv's Teen Mom series, today pleaded guilty to domestic battery charges, following a sustained attack on the father of her child, GARY SHIRLEY. The irony is that AMBER PORTWOOD was the breakout star from the series largely because of her turbulent relationship with Shirley, but after the TODAY SHOW aired segments of Amber's behaviour that highlighted domestic abuse, the Indiana Police Department were prompted to conduct an investigation, leading to Portwood's arrest and indictment.
E! Online reports that although she was facing three years in prison and a hefty $10,000 fine, her guilty plea reduced the sentence and prompted more lenient treatment from the judge. She managed to negotiate a plea deal that saw two charges dropped - a felony count of neglect of a dependent and a misdemeanour charge of domestic battery - and which also enabled her to see her 2-year old daughter Leah again, following the dropping of a 'no contact' order. The controversy surrounding the couple shows no sign of ending, with GARY SHIRLEY recently being arrested for arguing with Portwood in the street and driving with a suspended licence.
