Amanda Palmer Throws Block Party To Celebrate Album Fundraiser
The Dresden Dolls star launched a campaign on fundraising website Kickstarter.com in April (12), asking devotees for help in reaching her goal of $100,000 (£62,500) to release her next project independently after splitting from Roadrunner Records.
More than 23,000 fans dug deep to show their support and on Wednesday (30May12), the singer announced they had exceeded her target by reaching the $1 million mark - a day before the Thursday night (31May12) deadline.
The money will primarily be used to cover the album's promotion and distribution fees, but Palmer decided to use some of the funds to treat devotees to a big celebratory bash, dubbed the Afp Countdown Street Party.
She spent her Thursday working to secure a performance permit to play a special show in a parking lot in Brooklyn and took to her Twitter.com blog to share the details of the event with followers.
Tweeting earlier in the day, she wrote, "hundreds (thousands?) of people coming. waiting for permit info. holyf**k... Got The Party Address!!!! ready you new York motherf**kers????"
The event was free to all ages and saw Palmer count down the final moments of her Kickstarter campaign as it drew to a close.
