All (But One) News Corp Execs Take Compensation Hit

Of all of News Corp's top executives, only Fox News Channel Chairman Roger Ailes received a raise in 2011, according to SEC filings reported by today's (Wednesday) Los Angeles Times . Ailes, in fact, received a 30 percent increase in compensation to $21.1 million versus $15.6 million in 2011. Other top officers took significant hits to their wallets, although none would appear to be a candidate for government welfare. Chairman Rupert Murdoch received a compensation package of $30 million, down more than 10 percent from the $33.3 million he had received a year earlier. His son James received $16.8 million. A year earlier, he had been awarded $17.9 million but returned $6 million of that amount after stepping down as head of the company's News International unit in the wake of the telephone-hacking scandal. COO Chase Carey, who had seemed to be isolated from the scandal, nevertheless took an 18 percent reduction in compensation, going from $30.15 million in 2011 to $24.8 million in 2012. CFO David F. DeVoe took the biggest hit, receiving $10.8 million in 2012 versus $18.2 million in 2011.
