Alexandra Burke Takes Xmas Number One

X Factor winner Alexandra Burke's cover of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah beat Jeff Buckley's re-released version of the classic track to take the Christmas number one spot.

Buckley's version was released in response to The X Factor winner's single but could not match the sheer selling power of the ITV1 talent show.

Such is its dominance that the show's 2006 winner, Leona Lewis, was number three with her cover of Snow Patrol's Run.

Other Christmas number one challengers, Geraldine's Once Upon A Christmas Song and Bandaged's Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy, entered at five and fell to 13 respectively.

Beyonce pulled off an impressive festive feat with three entries in the top 40, the highest If I Were A Boy rising five places to number four.

In the album chart Take That stayed at number one with The Circus. Their single Greatest Day fell four places to number nine.

Leona Lewis remained number two with Spirit while Kings Of Leon overtook The Killers for third place.

The highest new entry in the album chart was Folie A Deux by Fall Out Boy - at the unusually low position of number 39.
