Speaking to Piers Morgan on his CNN show on Tuesday (July 3, 2012), Billy explained, "I think on one level it's very real. I think he's very committed and extremely bright and knowledgeable and I think he could do it and he could run", though added, "On the other hand, I'm not quite sure if he's cut from the proper cloth because it requires a lot of tolerance and a lot of patience". Morgan noted Baldwin's reputation for being "a bit hot headed" (he allegedly struck a photographer outside his apartment last month), though Billy quickly jumped to his brother's defence, saying, "Let me remind you that John MCCain and Rudy Giuliani are quite the same and they are very successful and highly effective politicians". As for his own politics, Billy opened up about his desire to see President Obama remain in office, saying, "I would most definitely like to see him elected", though warned, "I'm disappointed with public education".

Back in April, Baldwin teased Bloomberg television over his political ambitions, saying, "Let's see what things are like in 2014. I would love to do it.I would still like to consider doing that because I do a lot of this kind of work now and I wonder what it would be like if I had a staff and budget to do it". The actor still has a thriving film and television career, and most recently starred in Woody Allen's 'To Rome With Love'.
