Alber Elbaz has been named as an International Woolmark Prize judge for Europe.
The Israeli fashion designer - who joined Lanvin as artistic director in 2001 - has joined an illustrious panel of fashion heavyweights charged with choosing a representative for the European section from a shortlist of 19 up-and-coming designers.
Alber joins top British designer Giles Deacon, Style.com editor-at-large Tim Blanks, British Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman, Germany Vogue editor Christiane Arp and DSquared designers Dean and Dan Caten.
The regional winner will be crowned on July 12 and the designer will win £32,000 towards their next show.
A global winner from one of the five sectors in competition - Europe, China, America, India and Australia - will be announced at the awards ceremony in February 2013. The global winner will be rewarded with a further £64,095.
The Australian wool industry founded the International Woolmark Prize in the 1950s by to celebrate talented designers' use of merino wool. The designers have to produce sketches of a capsule collection made out of Merino wool as well as execute a full look.
The worldwide competition is responsible for raising the profiles of Karl Lagerfeld and YVES SAINT LAURENT in 1954.
