Al Green - Al Green Snubbed Chance To Sing For Obama At Inaugural Ball23 January 2013
Veteran soul star Al Green missed out on the chance to serenade U.S. President Barack Obama at the Inaugural Ball on Monday (21Jan13) due to scheduling conflicts.
Jennifer Hudson belted out the singer's classic Let's Stay Together for the First Couple's dance at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. - but Green was the first choice to perform at the event.
Green's representative tells the Associated Press the star was asked to sing but was forced to snub the opportunity because he had a prior commitment.
Jamie Foxx also performed at the event, serenading U.S. Vice President Joe Biden and his wife Jill with a rendition of Ray Charles' hit 1962 track I Can't Stop Loving You.
The New York Post's gossip column Page Six reports that Obama partied late into the night as he celebrated his second term in office, and even took to the dance floor with a number of famous faces including Usher and Janelle Monae at a private bash.
Obama is a longterm fan of Green and even showed off his singing skills last January (12) by serenading the audience at a New York charity fundraiser with the famous opening line to Let's Stay Together.
