Aiken: 'I Want To Be Idol Judge'

Former AMERICAN IDOL star CLAY AIKEN has added his name to the list of possible replacements for departed judge SIMON COWELL.

Elton John, Harry Connick, Jr. and another former Idol, Adam Lambert, have emerged as the fan favourites to take over from Cowell, but Aiken thinks he's the man for the job.

He tells Billboard.com, "I've always thought it would be a great addition to the panel to have someone who's a former contestant and knows what it's like to be up on that stage and be critiqued.

"I would not put myself out there to be as caustic as he (Cowell) is, but if they (producers) want to call me, bring it on. We can talk."

I realize it's not even a rumor, but I wish it were. Clay would be a phenomenal judge. He's honest, forthright, knowledgeable and amazingly funny. He'd truly jazz up that mostly over-the-hill show. Plus he still has a huge fanbase that would jump at the chance to see their idol on the tube every week. I think Clay, more than anyone else, could bring American Idol back to life.

I don't know if Clay was kidding about being a judge on AI, but personally I think he would be a great judge. He's not afraid to state his opinion about many things so I think he would be truthful about the auditioners. Clay also is very good at ad-libbing so he wouldn't say the same thing week after week. I think he would be fair and also give the contestance some feedback that would help them improve. Lets face it, these kids need someone to tell them what they are doing wrong, rather than"it didn't work for me" "you look pretty" "you were pitchy in parts but thats OK because in the end you brought it". I think Aiken might even work with the contestances and help them overcome some of their weaknesses. DWTS gives pointers on the performaces and one can actually see the improvements.
