After 'Magic Mike', Steven Soderbergh Sees Future On Small Screen

Following on from the success of Magic Mike, Steven Soderbergh has announced his intentions to possibly leave the big screen behind for good, instead focusing on television productions.

The Oscar-winning filmmaker hinted that he sees his future in television as he becomes increasingly disillusioned with cinema audiences' and their limited appetite for complex narratives and characterisation. In light of the recent boom in complex television dramas, Soderbergh told the Associated Press that his future probably lies in television. The director of the Ocean's Eleven trilogy is currently working on the television biopic Behind the Candelabra for premium TV provider HBO, which will star Michael Douglas as the flamboyant pianist and singer Liberace, with long-time collaborator Matt Damon set to co-star as his lover Scott Thorson.

In the meantime, Magic Mike received another publicity boost this weekend when footage of star Channing Tatum from his time as a real-life stripper in Florida leaked online. The video, said to have been shot by his former colleagues, was filmed more than a decade ago before the actor found fame. Before Soderbergh throws in the towel and moves over to pastures new, he is due to reunite with Tatum again on the psychological thriller The Bitter Pill, which is due out in February 2013. It will also star Rooney Mara and JUDE LAW.
