After Box Office Success, The Expendables Is Ready For Third Outing

The Expendables 2 hit cinemas on August 16th but a third instalment of the all-action blockbuster franchise is already on the mind of Avi Learner, the film's producer, reports Total Film.

An all-star cast featuring Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham and Jet Li propelled The Expendables 2 to an impressive box office haul, but has lagged compared to it's predecessor, which was released two years ago. The film doesn't pull any punches, make any artistic impressions or delicate observations, no, it's designed solely to entertain and reach previously unreached levels of ridiculousness. Despite its already stellar cast, Learner wants more Hollywood heavyweights to weigh in on the fiery franchise. "We've approached Clint Eastwood to be one of the guys, we've got a character in mind for him," confirmed Learner, "we're talking to Harrison Ford. [And we want] Wesley Snipes when he comes back from prison. I'll give you one more name, we've got Nicolas Cage to play [one of the characters]." An impressive list of names to add to a bulging roster, and, oh, he's not finished; "And we're going to bring Mickey Rourke back, if he won't be too crazy. I like Mickey. And of course, all the existing stars [will return]."

It looks like the third in the series of Expendables will incur an astronomical wage bill to cover the stars named, but given the films niche is including as many action heroes as possible, the trilogy couldn't be concluded any other way.
