Adele Surpasses Michael Jackson On U.k.'S All-time Album Sales List

Soul star Adele is celebrating after overtaking Michael Jackson's Thriller in the list of best-selling U.K. albums.

The London-born singer's second album 21 has rocketed into fifth place on the countdown after selling a total of 4,274,300 copies in Britain.

The multiple Grammy-winning record has shifted an average of 20,000 copies every week for the last month, pushing Jackson's 1982 classic into sixth place.

Martin Talbot, from the Official Charts Company, says, "To add to her many landmark records, Adele's achievement in overtaking Thriller in the all-time sales list is truly remarkable.

"Thriller has long been recognised as one of the most iconic albums of all-time. There is now no doubt that 21 can be spoken of in the same breath."

The top five best-selling albums are:

1. Greatest Hits - Queen

2. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Beatles

3. Gold: Greatest Hits - Abba

4. (What's The Story) Morning Glory? - Oasis

5. 21 - Adele.

If Michael Jackson was still alive and making new songs then the singers of today would really have to work hard if mj had new songs out the singers of today don't even come close to Michael Jackson he was the greatest and still is.

UnoU1it, you are correct. Adele is talented and British so that's no shocker. It took the UK from 1982 to 2012 (30 years) with the help of the internet , Amazon etc. to get her where she is. Michael had to do it the old fashion way the way it should be by non-technological means to sell it in order get it to the top. MJ did it and he stayed there without any outside help. They have attempted this same thing with Katy Perry. But what's funny is these entertainers are the very people who uses Michael Jackson as a template for their careers. Thriller continues #1 worldwide, so I don't think we have anything to worry about. I just heard on CNN that Pepsi and MJ's estate will be doing a worldwide advertising campaign (how ironic) using Michael's image so the Michael Jackson saga continues. It probably will never end!!

When Michael Jackson released his music people had to stand in line at the store and buy the whole album to get the songs they wanted. Now most of the music is digital and you can buy only one song if you want. If people had to still do that would she have sold as much? There is no way to know (but I personally don't think so). So I wish they would just compare people who are now in the digital age and leave the past because it is now a bygone era.
