Adele Set To Repeat Grammys Success At Brit Awards
At tonight's awards, Adele is expected to take home the Best Female Solo Artist award, for starters. She faces competition from Jessie J, Florence and the Machine, Laura Marling and Kate Bush. Although the other four nominees are strong contenders for the title, it is almost impossible to argue that any of them have equalled the influence that Adele has exerted over the charts, both in the UK and Stateside. Equally, her album, 21 is widely predicted to take home the Album of the Year award, over Ed Sheeran, Florence And The Machine and fellow Grammys performers Coldplay. PJ Harvey's critically-lauded album Let England Shake is also included in that category. In 2011, Pj Harvey became the first artist to win the Mercury Music Prize twice and her album topped many music critics' end of year lists. However, Adele's 21 would still seem to be the obvious choice, from a commercial standpoint.
The category for the best British Single would appear to be more of a level playing field, with 10 nominees included. Jessie J's 'Price Tag' is one of those, as is Ed Sheeran's 'The A Team.' Although Ed Sheeran has made a big impact on the charts and has been included in four categories, it is unlikely that the influence of Adele's 'Someone Like You' will be denied at tonight's ceremony.
