Adele - Adele Sells 730,000 Albums After Grammy Awards Clean Sweep

Though Adele was wowing audiences in her hometown of London this week, she continues to break records in the United States, with her smash-hit album '21' topping the 7 million sales mark. The British singer's record has also notched up the biggest post-Grammys sales increase in history.
After scooping all six of the Grammys she was nominated for and performing 'Rolling in the Deep' to a television audience of 39 million - Adele sold 730,000 copies of '21', according to Nielsen SoundScan data. That's a 207 per cent increase, and the biggest of all time. The healthy sales boost also made sure the album racked up its 21st week at No.1, breaking the 20 weeks set by the late singer Whitney Houston (for The Bodyguard in 1992-1993). The record's run at the top of the charts now matches M.C Hammer's 'Please Hammer Don't Hurt Em', which spent 21 weeks at No. 1 in 1990, though Adele is likely to take her run to 22 weeks. The 730,000 units shifted since the Grammys smashes the record set by Norah Jones', who sold 621,000 copies of 'Come Away With Me', following her five wins at the awards ceremony in 2003.
Despite her success, Adele hit the headlines for controversial reasons following the Brit Awards in London on Tuesday (February 21, 2012). The songstress' acceptance speech for Best Album was cut-short, prompting her to flick her middle finger to television cameras. The awards organisers later apologised to the singer.
