Adele - Adele, One Direction, Prop Up U.s. Album Sales For 2012

Yesterday it was reported that One Direction were out-numbered by Justin Bieber five to one when it comes to online searches for ticket sales in the UK. The British boy band could well be having the last laugh, though, with today's news that they are helping to prop up US album sales, along with British singer-songwriter Adele.
Bbc News report today (July 6, 2012) that the two British acts have helped to stem the decline in US album sales, which dropped "just 0.6 per cent" in the first six months of 2012. Adele's multi-Grammy winning album 21 is the best-selling album of the year, Stateside, by an impressive margin. 21 has sold 3,668,000 copies and its nearest contender Lionel Richie's Tuskegee has sold 912,000. One Direction's debut album Up All Night has sold an impressive 818,000 after the boys spent time touring the Unites States and building up their fan base there.
The recovery of the US music industry appears to be continuing, in a trend that was kick-started last year. In total, according to industry analysts Nielsen, there have been 853 million combined music sales, including albums and singles, digital and physical copies. The reverse in the slump in music sales has been largely attributed to digital sales from stores such as iTunes and Amazon. The vinyl format is also experiencing an increase in demand, with 2.2 million vinyl albums sold so far this year, compared to 1.9 million in 2011. The most popular vinyl album was 'Blunderbuss' by Jack White, formerly of The White Stripes. The CD remains the most popular album format, though.
